I was going to write this yesterday but I had only three things on my mind: Showering, Eating and Sleeping.
So without further ado my first ever organised run, complete!
I arrived at the event early (an hour and a half early, whoops), but it was fine because there was so much to take in. However the more I stood there the more nervous I got, at one point turning to my boyfriend and suggesting we just go home.
Naturally he refused.
At 12.30 my wave set off, although due to our size I didn’t actually get across the start line till around 12.45, there was just so many people!
I went slowly, determined to run the whole thing without stopping and just took in the crowds and the runners costumes.
Two things made this race for me:
- The jellybabies at 8.5K, lifesavers!
- Three runners with guitars that sang Beatles songs whenever we reached crowds or someone was flagging.
Finishing the race was just so overwhelming. The crowds were huge and really supportive and when I crossed the finish line I couldn’t stop grinning like a loon.
Once I got home I sat in my finishers medal and t-shirt and felt like such a badass.
A seriously fun race that was superbly organised. I will be doing it again next year.
Split times
3k time 00:21:25 5k time 00:35:54 8k time 00:57:17
Finish Time: 01:10:59
I’m happy with these times for my first 10K, yes I would’ve liked to finish faster but it was more important for me to finish than anything else.
Now for the most important thing.
